Our Fleet

All the sailboats described below are available for use by club members at no cost. However, before being authorized to use a specific boat, the member must participate in a qualifications session.

Sunfish

  • Four available

  • A personal-size and beach-launched sailing dinghy

  • Features a very flat, board-like hull carrying a lateen sail mounted to an un-stayed mast.

These are stored with all the necessary equipment on dollies and are available at our storage facility at Jarreau, LA for use on the False River. They can be launched at no cost from the ramp at Busche’s Restaurant which is located west of the storage pavilion.

  • A daysailer dinghy used for pleasure sailing and racing.

  • Sloop rigged

  • Normally carries a crew of two or three but can carry up to six adults

  • In addition to its mainsail and jib, the Scot can carry a symmetrical spinnaker

Flying Scot

The Scot is currently stationed at the Pontchartrain Yacht Club and engaged in collaborative outings with members of that club.

  • 19 foot, daysailer

  • Based on the hull of the fast, stable Rhodes 19, the Mariner added a small cabin and other features

  • Moored at Marina Del Ray in Madisonville

  • Equipped with a 4 HP Mercury outboard motor that is needed to negotiate the 30-minute trip from the marina to the sailing venue on Lake Pontchartrain

O’ Day Mariner 19

Built by O’ Day from 1963 through 1979, and currently, by Stuart Marine, the Mariner was marketed as a family daysailer. Our Mariner, Sweet Kate, was donated to the Club by Fred Brunt of the Lake Arthur Yacht Club.

Within the next six months, plans are to replace the Mariner with the Eclipse 6.7 described below. The Mariner will then be placed into service at False River.

  • 22 feet in length, has a beam of 7.08 feet and a draft of 4.83 feet with the keel extended and 0.83 feet with it retracted.

  • Propulsion is provided by a 9.8 HP Mercury outboard motor

  • Built by the Southcoast Seacraft Company of Shreveport, Louisiana

Eclipse 6.7

At the moment, the Eclipse is being rehabilitated in advance of being moored at Marina Del Ray, Madisonville, at which time it will replace the Mariner 19 that will be relocated to False River.
