After a 60-year presence on False River NW of Baton Rouge, the Pelican Yacht Club of Baton Rouge is relocating to Marina Del Ray in Madisonville, LA. The Marina, located of the eastern bank of the Tchefuncte River, offers the Club and its members many amenities and facilities that were lacking at its False River base in Oscar, LA. The twenty members of the Club look forward to enjoying the facilities at the Marina, the new sailing venue on Lake Pontchartrain and being a part of a larger boating community.

A new dry storage area has been created to house the original complement of seven Club and member boats that will be relocated from False River to the Marina. The joint fleet of sailboats consists of the Club’s Mariner 19- Sweet Kate and the following member boats- Venture 25, McGregor 26, Catalina 22, ComPac 16, Harpoon 5.2 and North American 23. Future plans include the dry storage of one, possibly two, of the Club’s Flying Scots.

The Club will maintain a presence on False River at the Sandbar Restaurant complex in Oscar. Currently, three Sunfish are available at the complex for member use. Further, the Club will continue to conduct the Teekell Sunfish Race Series at this site.

While severely limited over the past year due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the Club is known for its sailing and social events.  It intends to offer an adult sailing course when conditions permit. The Club is currently in the process of developing a Youth Sailing Program in memory of one of its most ardent past members, Louis J. Thibodeaux.  Also, a Flying Scot Racing Team is being formed to compete in area regattas.

Membership in the Club is open to individuals and households with an interest in sailing. Once a member, you will have access to Club boats and all the activities and programs of the Club. Club dues are $50/mo with an initiation fee of $200 whereas a fee of $50/mo is charged for individuals who dry store their boats at the Marina. Wet slips are available staring at $140/mo and varying depending on the size of the boat. Inquiries about membership should be directed to Roger Seals, PYC Commodore- or 225-335-5327. See the membership section of this website for an application form.
